Weather Summary for The Chronicle

Last Week's Weather Recap (May 21st-May 27th)
The North Country experienced a limited amount of sunshine and very soggy conditions over the past week. A very active weather pattern across the eastern third of the nation delivered almost an inch of rainfall for the week and an extended period of cloudy skies. Unfortunately, the weather posed less than ideal conditions for activities all across the North Country for the Memorial Day weekend; the unofficial start of the summer season.
High temperatures from the 21st thru the 23rd averaged in the low 60s with varying overnight temperatures ranging from the upper 30's on the 22nd to the upper 50's under extensive cloud cover on the 23rd. About a quarter of an inch of rain fell in Queensbury and Hudson Falls on the 21st ahead of a cold front. Some locally higher amounts of a half an inch were reported in northern portions of Warren County. The 22nd remained dry with mostly cloudy skies, however the dreary conditions returned on the 23rd with a few hit-and-miss showers in the late afternoon and early evening.
The holiday weekend featured a fairly decent Sunday (25th) sandwiched in-between two fairly wet days on Saturday and Memorial Day Monday. Cloudy skies and scattered rain showers occurred on Saturday into early Sunday morning. Rain amounts ranged from a tenth of an inch in the Glens Falls area to as much as a quarter of an inch in the eastern portions of Warren and Washington Counties. Later on Sunday, an extended period of sun allowed temperatures to soar to near 70 degrees, a welcome though brief change to the extensive period of clouds and rain. Sadly, the rain returned with a vengeance on Memorial Day with over a third of a inch of rain occurring throughout most of the day with temperatures holding steady in the upper 50's to near 60. Tuesday the 27th featured mostly cloudy skies, though rain showers were few and far between the breaks of sun.
The Week Ahead (May 29th - June 4th)
Typically over the next week, Glens Falls experiences highs near 73-74 degrees with lows dropping to near 49-50 degrees. Fortunately, no heat waves or cold-snaps are in the forecast with temperatures likely remaining near or even slightly below normal for the next week. Regrettably, the unsettled conditions will likely remain until the early portions of June with scattered rain showers continuing across the North Country.
From the 29th through the 2nd, high temperatures will likely remain in the upper 60's to low 70's, a bit below seasonable values. Scattered rain showers (and even possible thunderstorms) will remain in the cards through the 2nd with best chance of precipitation occurring over the weekend (June 1st and 2nd). A series of low pressure areas in the upper portions of the atmosphere have continued to track over the North Country over the past week or so. This is what has caused the inclement weather not only in our backyard, but all across New England. This may change come the 3rd.
June 3rd and 4th may feature a bit of a break in the rain showers with a substantial amount of sunshine being a distinct possibility. High temperatures may rise into the mid 70's with lows dropping into the mid 40's to possibly low 50's. It appears as though there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, however it may be awhile before dry, sunny and more typical late spring conditions set in here in the North Country.
