May

May is typically a splendid Spring month across the North Country. Average highs climb from the lower 60’s early in the month to the lower 70’s F (20's C) by Memorial Day. Temperatures have reached the 90’s F (30's C) before, as well as a few lows in the chilly lower 20’s F (-6C). Trees rapidly leaf out in the first few weeks of the month in lower elevations, and all elevations by the end of May. Our last frost typically occurs by the end of the month.

Rainfall is common, and at 3.75” (10cm) May is the wettest month of the whole year. Our first thunderstorms also usually occur by the end of the month. Snow is very rare, but 1 out of every 15 Mays sees measurable snowfall. Thankfully, any snow that does fall does not last.
