August

August is another fine summer month across the North Country. Days are still long and warm, though temperatures begin to cool slightly at the end of the month. Average highs start in the lower 80’s F (upper 20's C), and gradually fall to the middle to upper 70’s F (lower to middle 20's C) by month’s end. A day or two with highs in the 90’s F (lower 30's C) is common, with some lows in the 40’s F (single digit C) possible by the end of the month. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon are still common.

While not common, tropical systems do impact the North Country. Typically, these are remnants of system which have moved up the East Coast or into the southeastern U.S., and can produce a day or two of heavy rain. Wind damage from tropical systems are rare. Usually, these indirect effects impact the North Country in August and September.

Sunshine is also at a near maximum for the whole year, with 61% possible sunshine recorded on average.
