September

September marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Days are becoming shorter, the nights markedly cooler. High temperatures are still mild to warm however, falling from the middle 70’s F (mid to upper 20's C) to the middle 60’s F (upper 10's C) through the month. A few days may experience highs in the 80’s to near 90 F (27 to 32 C), particularly at the beginning of the month. Average lows fall from the lower 50’s to the lower 40’s F (4 to 11 C). A frosty night or two is likely, particularly in the second half of the month.

Precipitation changes from mainly afternoon showers/thunderstorms of summer, to occasional cold fronts producing showers or rain ahead of them. A coastal storm may also produce a several day period of rain.

Trees begin to change color at the end of the month, with summits usually reaching 10-20% color by the September’s close.
